“My work at prisons and hospitals in Europe developed that fast that at the turn of the years 1951-1952, when I went for holidays to England, I realised that it would be necessary to establish a small charity organisation as a Living Monument”. 

That is how the British Sue Ryder Foundation commenced its activity. The Foundation had its seat at the house in Cavendish, which Sue Ryder bought from her mother. The first donors of the Foundation were Sue Ryder’s mother and her friends. The mother’s energy and public activity made the Foundation known all over Great Britain. Sue Ryder described her colleagues as noble persons deprived of egoism. Thanks to them, Sue Ryder developed her international operations.
